The Constitution that is the framework of our system of laws was ratified by the states between 1787 and 1790. The common misnomer is our system of government is a Democracy. A Democracy is majority rule on any subject. A Republic has a framework of laws to govern the interactions of it’s Citizens.
The distinction enables changes to the laws to be made gradually with thoughtful consideration and debate.
