February 28, 2021: Is the NRA Bankrupt?

Yes and no, Primarily no. The news of the NRA being in New York Bankruptcy Court is a tactic in it’s overall strategy to to exit the unfriendly political and legal environment of New York.  After 150 years and with roughly 6 million members, the NRA is changing it’s status from a New York entity to a Texas not for profit organization.  Hence the trip through New York Bankruptcy Court.

The Great State of Texas, the Free State of Texas conjure images of Independence and Freedom. I’m sure the NRA had a selection committee working on the relocation plan, but I’m not sure I would have come to the same conclusion. Seems like Texas is already infected with progressive ideologues. I might have selected West Virginia or Oklahoma. I correlate conservatism to voting outcomes, those were the only two states with every county being red in the last presidential election.

Back to the financials. It seems while the transition is in progress, Recruiters are not being paid. Or at least some are not. An online recruitment in December was paid via check. Admittedly I waited a few weeks before depositing said check which bounced. Of course the bank charged a fee for their inconvenience after deleting the deposit. The recruiter representative for Florida was very responsive in explaining the accounts are transition but the NRA would cover the bank fees as well as make good on the recruitment amount.

Nearing the end of April 2021, the latest update is there is a hold on the recruitment payout for January. Along with the announcement in both Shooting Illustrated and American Rifleman that the June/July issue will be condensed again in 2021, now I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to the story.
